Using Muscle-Testing to Tap Into Your Subconscious for Emotional Release

Imagine if you could ask your body any question, and get an immediate, honest answer. No overthinking, no guessing, just the pure truth.
That is exactly what muscle-testing is.
As a technique, self-muscle testing (or self-kinesiology) is simply a way to tap into your body's subconscious responses. It helps you gain deep insight, find clarity, and make decisions by listening to what your body is trying to tell you. In my practice, it is one of the most powerful tools I use to help clients heal.
How Does It Actually Work?
You can think of your subconscious mind like a massive hard drive. It remembers every single thing that has ever happened to you, even the things your conscious mind has forgotten or pushed aside.
Because our brains and nervous systems run on electrical impulses, your body reacts physically to thoughts, memories, and emotions:
When something is true, healthy, or good for you, your nervous system stays strong.
When something is untrue, stressful, or a negative emotional trigger, your system experiences a brief "short-circuit," and your muscles momentarily weaken.
By testing the strength of a muscle after asking a question, we are essentially getting a direct "yes" or "no" from your subconscious mind.
How I Use This in Emotional Release Therapy
In my emotional release sessions, muscle-testing is my go-to tool. It allows us to bypass the busy, analytical part of your brain and go straight to the root of the issue. I use it for two main reasons:
To find the exact trapped emotion: We can pinpoint precisely what energy is stuck, whether it’s unexpressed grief, old anger, or anxiety.
To uncover the story: It helps us retrieve past information. We can find out exactly when this emotion got trapped (like a specific childhood year or a difficult life event) so we can finally acknowledge it and let it go.
Different Ways to Muscle-Test
There are several ways to practice muscle-testing, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
A common practitioner method involves having a person raise one arm out in front of them while someone else gently presses down on the wrist after a question is asked to check the resistance.
For self-testing, a wonderful and simple technique is the "Lock-in-Lock" (or loop-in-loop) method. You simply interlock the thumb and index finger of both hands to create a chain-like position. When you ask a question and try to pull the lock apart, a strong lock that stays together indicates a Yes, while a lock that breaks easily indicates a No.

What if You Find It Hard to Test Yourself? (Proxy Testing)
If you are new to this, it’s completely normal to feel a bit unsure or worry that you are "overthinking" the answers. That is exactly why I use Proxy Testing in my practice.
Proxy testing simply means that I connect with your energy field and use my own muscles (usually through the Lock-in-Lock method) to ask the questions and receive the answers on your behalf. I use this all the time in my physical, in-person sessions if a client is tired, unfamiliar with the technique, or simply wants to relax and let me do the heavy lifting. It is incredibly accurate and takes all the pressure off you while you focus on your healing.
Healing Across Distance: Virtual Sessions
Because energy work transcends physical space, this proxy method makes muscle-testing the perfect tool for online sessions.
People often ask me, "Silvia, how can we do an Emotional Release session if we aren't in the same room?" The truth is, energy isn't limited by distance. Whether you are sitting with me in the studio or watching me over Zoom from the other side of the world, I can act as your proxy just the same.
A Must-Have Tool for Your Daily Self-Care
I practice this dozens of times a day, so it’s second nature to me now. But I truly believe this is a must-have self-care tool that everyone should learn.
When you learn to muscle-test yourself, you get to own your inquiry power. Muscle-testing is not just for emotional decode, it can also be used for other self-care purposes such as asking your body what foods nourish you, what supplements you actually need, or if a certain boundary needs to be set in your life.
Once we work together and you get to see how accurate it is, it becomes much easier to trust yourself and build your own confidence with it!
Your Body Holds the Answers
Muscle-testing is a beautiful, complementary tool to help you decode the language of your own soul. Your body remembers everything your mind has tried to protect you from. When you're ready to listen, the answers are right there waiting for you.
Note: While muscle-testing is a wonderful tool for emotional wellness and navigating personal insights, it is a complementary practice and should not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
